Restoration of urban lakes and stormwater ponds using microorganisms

2016

Urban lakes and storm water ponds differ from other lakes by being highly artificial, eutrophicated and close to human activity.

Restoration has been tackled through different technics, either by applying physical, chemical or mechanical treatment. However, those methods are often costly and have sometimes influenced negatively the present biodiversity. In this project, we will look into the rules and regulations concerning use of microorganisms to restore urban lakes and storm water basins by reducing the present organic matter and nutrient loading while preserving and enhancing biodiversity. This method will be tested on different locations.
